Client: Coombs

Works: Large extension to existing building using I beam panels and  incorporating Warmcel insulation

Value: £56,000

Duration: 8 Week

Sector: Nursing Home

A 24 bedroom extension to existing building undertaken for Coombs Construction. The brief was to create a functional living space, fit for purpose and blending in with both the original property and the local surrounds. Intrinsic to the scheme was the use of I-beam panels to form the external walls and the use of Warmcel fibrous insulation to fulfil the client’s desire for an environmentally sympathetic build.

An issue to overcome on this project was site access, the build area could only be accessed by an alleyway along the side of the existing building measuring some 750mm at its narrowest! We overcame this by designing the panels in a smaller format than usual, thus allowing manual handling to be used as the primary method of moving the panels into place. Time delays were avoided by increasing the labour resources on site in order to maintain site programme.
